    No clogged bottom filter!!

Posted by Brian G. on Mar 3rd 2017

I had read a review that really wasn't impressed with this product, and the reviewer indicated that he believed the mesh was too large and pellet hops (which tend to disintegrate) just flowed through it and wound up as sludge in the bottom.

Well, if that was EVER true, it must be from an earlier version, My experience was great with it. 3 oz. of pellet hops, and at the end of the boil, in the bottom of the spider was 3 to 4 inches of hop debris. Cooled the wort down and not a single issue with sludge in the bottom clogging the pump or the filter. There was no real appreciable sludge at all. I'd call it a weak slurry at best, not thick at all and certainly wouldn't (didn't) clog the bottom filter.

So, LONG story short...this works as advertised and from what I've read from other Grainfather reviewers, some sort of hop management system is highly suggested. No hesitancy here any longer, this thing works!
